Faculty Senate

The Mission of the Faculty Senate is to serve as a representative voice of the faculty and to provide a means of communication between the faculty and the Chancellor and the Administration staff of LSU Health New Orleans.

The Faculty Senate is an elected body representing the faculty of the six schools on our campus (i.e., the Schools of Allied Health, Dentistry, Graduate Studies, Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health) as well as the LSU Health New Orleans Library. Senators are elected via each of the Schools' Faculty Assemblies / Organizations. The Senate serves as a representative voice of the faculty and provides a means of communication between faculty, the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor(s), and our institution’s administration, as well as with the assemblies of the individual schools and Faculty Senates of other institutions in the LSU system. The Senate also elects two members to serve as representatives to attend meetings of the LSU Board of Supervisors.

The Senate meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month, with the exception of July (summer recess). The meeting time, place and agenda are posted in advance, and meetings are open to the public.

President's Message

Dear LSU Health New Orleans Faculty and Guests:Allison C. Augustus-Wallace, PhD, MS, MNS, DEIC

Our LSUHSC-New Orleans Faculty is a collection of renowned, highly educated, and skilled professionals, with various expertise and represent an abundance of demographics of our state, our region, our country, and the world. As a faculty member in the Schools of Medicine & Graduate Studies, as well as a four-time LSU alumna, including as a graduate of the 2014 LSUHSC-New Orleans, Graduate Studies PhD program, I am proud and elated to serve as the 2026-27 President of the LSUHSC-New Orleans (LSU Health) Faculty Senate!!!

Active, fulfilling faculty engagement, as a key to the sustainability and success of an academic institution, arises via shared governance through collaborations, trust, respect, and transparency. Likewise, it promotes institutional morale and reputation, catalyzes institutional innovation, and encourages the campus community to be altruistic, invested, and purposeful.

LSU Health’s multilateral mission of excellence, which primarily focuses on instruction, research, and service, can be fully realized through a healthy dialogue between the administration that supports this work and the faculty who work diligently to accomplish such goals. As President, I am committed to listening to and to championing the diverse voices of our faculty across all schools; to cultivating communication that is both transparent and bidirectional between the faculty and the administration; and to fostering effective faculty participation in shaping and realizing our vision for LSU Health-New Orleans.

Therefore, I welcome you to engage actively with your Senate delegates, to attend Senate meetings, and to review post-meeting minutes. Your questions, comments, and concerns are invited and can be emailed to your Senate delegates or shared with the Faculty Senate via this form: Faculty Senate Contact Form. Bring your commitment and enthusiasm to a meeting, to share your insights regarding an agenda topic by registering at least two (2) hours in advance via the contact form.

I, and we (your Delegates), look forward to hearing from you.

Stay safe & well,

Allison C. Augustus-Wallace, PhD, MS, MNS, DEIC
