ORCID iD Service
The ORCID iD is a 16-digit identifier that:
- Is unique to a researcher and eliminates confusion over name similarities
- Is used in research workflows, like manuscript and grant submissions, to establish a link between a scholar and their scholarly record
- Has been integrated with NIH’s SciENcv Biosketch tool as well as with many major publishers
- Can be used throughout the researcher’s career regardless of name or institutional affiliation changes
- Is free, quick, and easy to register and use
Researchers can use their ORCID profile as an online CV to:
- Showcase all scholarly outputs including publications, presentations, grants, patents, datasets, software, etc.
- List employment history, education, and other biographical information
- Link to profiles on social media accounts, personal websites, department profiles, Google Scholar, etc.
- Connect with trusted publishers, funders, and databases to automatically update when new works are published to ease administrative burden
- Increase visibility and discoverability across scholarly systems
- A comprehensive ORCID profile provides a single, trusted record of a researcher’s work and career that is integrated into many research workflows.
Our Librarians are available to assist researchers with optimizing the usage of their ORCID iDs. This includes creating an ORCID iD, consolidating multiple ORCID iDs into a single account, adding works to an ORCID profile, connecting with organizations for automatic updates, and anything else that may be needed. Please fill out this form and a Librarian will get in touch with you: ORCID iD Service Request Form.
